Huffines KIA of Denton was recently honored with the Pro-Patria award from the U.S. Department of Defense for outstanding support of the military reserves after being nominated for the award by Army National Guard Spc. and Huffines KIA Subaru Denton Internet Director, Gary Davis.
Huffines KIA Subaru Denton was one of only six Texas employers to be honored by the Texas Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) at their annual Employer Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza Austin Hotel. The ESGR Pro Patria Award recognizes employers who demonstrated exceptional support for the Reserve Component Forces by adopting policies that make it easier for their employees to participate in the National Guard and Reserve, sustaining their employee’s compensation and benefit programs during deployments, and providing support to the service member’s family. Pro Patria is a Latin phrase meaning, “for one’s country”.

The Pro Patria Award is the highest award an ESGR State Committee can present an employer in recognition of the crucial role they play in National Defense. Currently, the National Guard and Reserves comprise approximately half of our nation’s Armed Forces. In Texas, more than 53,000 Guardsmen and Reservists are employed by more than 28,000 private and public sector employers. The six employers to win the Pro Patria award were selected from the 451 Texas employers who previously received the ESGR Patriot Award in 2013, as nominated by their service member employees.
“Each of these organizations excel at supporting their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve,” said Eddy Spurgin, the Texas ESGR State Chair. “They provide excellent benefit packages, train their supervisors on the federal laws regarding military service, actively recruit members of the National Guard and Reserve, and have established a culture of generous support to deployed service members and their families. Our State Committee is honored to recognize these outstanding Texas employers and the support they provide their Citizen Warrior employees who keep our country safe.”
